Veronaville Middle School

Veronaville Middle School is a public school serving students grades 6-8 (children on their birthday through the first five days as a teen) from the City of North Port, which includes Veronaville. It opened in 1961 as Veronaville Junior High School, and the original structure is one of three identical schools constructed at the same time (the other two being the former Oldtown Middle School that was destroyed by Hurricane Charley, and the former Sim City Middle School that was replaced with larger facility and is now home to Sim City Christian Academy and First Baptist Church of Sim City). It was listed as a historic mid-century structure in 2011. Among this school’s alumni are several members of the Capp and Monty families and Puck Summerdream. Its mascot is the Veronaville Terriers.

The campus consists of four buildings, including the main building constructed in 1961, the art building addition (the small building at the right side of the campus) constructed in 1994, and the two buildings on the left side of the campus constructed in 1999.

It is based on Port Charlotte Middle School, a real school in Port Charlotte, Florida, although the real school was built in 1971, is a candidate for historic designation vs. being actively listed as such, and generally does not serve North Port, Florida (with school choice providing some exceptions). The real life version of this school was featured a one of the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation‘s 11 to Save in 2023.

The community lot version is mostly completed, but this project is still considered a beta. Photos are coming soon!
